Everything You Need To Know About The International Plowing Match

What is the International Plowing Match & Rural Expo (IPM)?

The International Plowing Match and Rural Expo (IPM) is a five-day event focused on agriculture and rural living. Think of it as the biggest ‘fall fair’ you’ve ever been to but if everyone there was either a farmer or lived in the countryside. It’s expected to reach a similar audience size to the Simcoe Fall Fair, which is known as one of the biggest fairs in Ontario. Honestly, it’s the perfect event for the Niagara Region.

There are plowing competitions, activities for people of all ages, agricultural education, live entertainment, food venues, and an RV park. Additionally, you’ll find hundreds of vendors and exhibitors, including Ontario Agra Piping & Supplies. We’re thrilled to be a part of the International Plowing Match and its rich history throughout Ontario.

For its 106th year, the International Plowing Match is being hosted in Niagara for the first time since 1926!

Below you’ll find some of the basics that we know so far, but we will be sure to add in any new relevant information as it becomes available. Stay tuned for event details, vendors, competitions, and more.

Tourism Niagara Approved Accommodations

Tourism Niagara recommended accommodations can be found here. We’ve filtered these results to the “Niagara Benchmarks” area to help you find a place as close to the IPM as possible. You can use this link to find hotels, cottages, B&Bs, and even campgrounds.

Our Tips and Advice

We’ve highlighted the area that we feel gives you the best range of options within a 20-25 minute drive, along with plenty of selection. Towns like Dunnville, Smithville, and Fonthill will provide you with options for accommodation, beautiful small towns, and a backroads drive to the International Plowing Match that will minimize traffic and avoid highways.

Locations like Stoney Creek and Hamilton will have a ton of hotel options, however they are busier cities that may cause traffic delays on your way to or from the IPM.

Lastly, Grimsby and Beamsville may be the best of both worlds. They’re right off the QEW for easy access and a little bit busier as a result, but the drive to Grassie is short and doesn’t rely on city or highway driving.

Accommodations International Plowing Match

Another option worth considering would be a cottage or campground along the Lake Erie cost. If you’re will to add an extra 10 or 15 minutes onto your drive in exchange for a lakefront cottage getaway, the coast between South Cayuga and Lowbanks has dozens to choose from. It may be the perfect way to explore the region, have a vacation, and enjoy everything the International Plowing Match has to offer.

Why We Support the International Plowing Match

Our team at Ontario Agra Piping & Supplies has years of hands-on experience with farming and rural living. To see our friends, families, and community come together to pull off one of the biggest annual events in Ontario is something we’re extremely excited to be a part of. We work with farmers and rural homeowners every day, and can’t wait to spend the week getting to know so many new people, while reconnecting with so many familiar faces.

The agriculture industry is the heart of our community, and we want to help build this into the best success possible. When you’re at the International Plowing Match in Grassie this September, be sure to stop the Ontario Agra Piping & Supplies booth and say hello.

We can’t wait to see you there.
